Growing toes!

Story's feet have made fantastic progress, at the barn today I snapped a few photos so everyone else can see as well! She has some great new growth coming in. Her next appointment with Jenny is scheduled for the 4th of February, I am very excited.

Thank you, Story.

Story finally had her first 100% positive day at the barn. I love the mare to bits, but she has to look at everything, touch everything, smell everything, move everywhere- so it gets exhausting. In the crossties it was close to impossible to groom Story, blanket Story, pick Story's hooves, wrap Story's legs- the list goes on. I wanted to give her a few days to "settle in" and see if she would revert to good manners, but at one week (Tuesday) I decided to say enough is enough. So poor Story had a bit of shock to her ego that day, every time she moved in the crossties she was smacked or kneed (NOT roughly, I don't want anyone to think I am beating this horse!), she didn't like it but Wednesday, less punishment was needed- AND she gave me less trouble picking her feet, and taking her boots on and off. Today, Story was great! She picked up all four feet without one kicking threat, and *GASP* stood still during her grooming!

It is a small improvement, and surely steps will be taken backwards in progress somedays- but I am just so happy with her right now!

here are some before and afters of Storys FIRST trim. Jenny has edited them so hopefully the can give everyone a fairly good guideline and sense of what is going on with her poor toes.

a blast from the past

I managed to get in touch with one of Storys' old owners, named Marilyn. She had Story for 6 years before sellings her and was in shock to hear of the condition of Storys' poor feet.

Marilyn came today with her husband Doug to visit Story, they were absolutely one of the nicest, most generous couples I have ever met. Story was happy to have some grooming time with her other mom, and was definitely pleased with the beautiful stable blanket she brought out for her! Along with the blanket, Marilyn brought her carrots, a new halter, and a wonderful pair of wraps that will help her feel great!

I am so thankful for Marilyn and Doug coming from Ottawa to see Story, and for all the things they brought for her!
